Every piece, every time

Natural means it moves.
Here’s how much.

A basket is easy to photograph and hard to buy. You cannot see the inner diameter, you cannot see what it holds before it sags, and nobody tells you that jute sheds on a dark floor for a month. So we publish six things on every product page, and we publish the awkward ones first.

Fibre and weave

Which of the six fibres it is, how tight the weave is, and whether it was woven by hand or on a frame.

Tested load

A measured figure in kilograms with the condition it was measured under. Never an estimate, never a range.

Inner diameter

The outer size tells you where it fits on the shelf. The inner size tells you what goes in it. We publish both.

Shedding grade

None, light or yes. Jute sheds. We would rather tell you now than have you find out on a dark floor.

Tell us what goes in it

Three questions — what you are storing, which room it lives in, and roughly how heavy it will be. We answer from the measured fields, not from a mood board.

  • Pick a bathroom and we only return pieces rated for damp rooms, with the ventilation warning attached.
  • Pick a kids’ room and every piece with a cord or a long fringe is removed from the results.
  • Pick a weight band and we only return pieces we measured at or above the top of that band.

The part most shops leave out

It will change. Here is how.

Natural fibre varies between batches by up to 10 % in shade and 5 % in size. New pieces shed. Jute smells of dry sacking for a fortnight. Loaded fibre takes a set and does not always come all the way back.

None of that is a fault, and none of it is a reason to send a basket back. But you should know it before it arrives, not after.
